BYOU+ is an LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Questioning/Queer* and other sexualities & gender identities) community organisation based in the Wigan Borough. BYOU+ launched in 2016 with the support of Wigan Council's "The Deal". Our aim is to provide an array of services in relation to LGBTQ+.
BYOU+ is also project leaders of Wigan Pride.
WHY ARE YOU CALLED BYOU+?
The organisation was set up by Zak Bretherton & Scott Williams (Zak's former youth worker) whilst working on BYOU - Wigan Council's 13-19 year old LGBT youth group. Zak was inspired to create a provision in the borough for those who are LGBTQ+ and over the age of 18. Zak wanted to pay homage to the LGBT group he used to attend as well as provide a obvious link to the group, therefore the name BYOU+ was decided upon. BYOU+ is pronounced Be-You-Plus.
BYOU+ is proud to work alongside Autism Friends to be inclusive and raise awareness of people with Autism and what can be done to support Autistic people in the Wigan Borough. Our aim is to support the ambition to make Wigan the first Autism Friendly borough.
